Knaus Tabbert grows and celebrates: Third largest caravan manufacturer in Europe
There has been a lot of focus on ever larger units within the caravan industry in Europe. The Erwin Hymer Group has come under US ownership. Trigano Group has swallowed Adria and some others. In all silence, the Knaus Tabbert Group has gone away and become the third largest caravasn producer in Europe, and it was duly highlighted during the press screening in Bad Griesbach this summer.
It all began 50 years ago in Jandelsbrunn, a small village that used to be just inside the Iron Curtain in the Bundesrepublik Deutschland. For 2018, the group produced Knaus Tabbert, which also has the Weinsberg and T @ B brands as many as 26.000 caravans, motorhomes and city cars in the factories in Jandelsbrunn, Mottgers, Schlüsselfeld and Nagyoroszi. If anyone stumbles upon the last name, then it is just right placed in Hungary.
Production figures for 2018 were a new record, placing the Group in third place among caravan manufacturers in Europe. But Knaus Tabbert does not intend to rest on the laurels. The CEO, Wolfgang Speck, maintained production forecasts for 2019-2020 that will increase production figures, turnover and, above all, market share. For that is whether the market shares are the battle between the various producer groups, it is the ones they are fighting to increase. That is why we have seen ever-increasing associations in recent years, but Knaus Tabbert has been able to take his third place in the field almost independently and without excessive words and letters. For now.
Water Filter System
The big news everyone from Knaus Tabbert talked about was a brand new water filter system that comes standard in all the group's caravans and motorhomes from the 2020 models. It may be necessary, because even in Norway with some of the world's best drinking water, it may be okay to make sure it has all passed through a filter system that removes all unwanted, from chlorine, particles, soil, and not least bacteria of different caliber, all of which have in common that they can create excruciating conditions for caravanists on tour. The new BTW (Best Water Technology) system will ensure that the water used is filtered, softened and has a better and more pleasant taste. Even coffee is supposed to taste better, Knaus Tabbert promises. The cleaning also ensures that the bathroom and kitchen sink stay clean longer. If you have an older camping vehicle, water filtration systems can also be retrofitted to some extent.
If the space becomes too small inside, all Knaus and Weinsberg motorhomes can be equipped with a load carrier that can be automatically swung out from under the rear bumper. It is attached directly to the chassis, has bicycle carrying and transport arms, and has ball coupling for trailers. The lights are adapted to the car's CANBUS systems and therefore work automatically when the equipment is used. The load capacity is usually 83 kg. with a 320 liter transport box, the load capacity is 72 kg. So just keep in mind that the total weight does not exceed the weight of the vehicle, or the driver's license.
Developed as weapon sights for the British Spitfire fighter jets during World War II, the HUD, or Head-up display has come to the car world to stay. In short, it ensures that important driving data such as speed etc. are projected on a transparent screen, so that the driver does not have to take his eyes off the road. Knaus Tabbert points to the traffic safety aspect that lies in the fact that legal speed, traffic signals and navigation data are readily available in the driver's field of view - as well as HUD performing well on the dashboard.
More engine options
In addition to the classic Fiat motorization, Knaus Tabbert also drives MAN chassis on his motorhomes. In our experience, there is also a dialogue with Mercedes, also because Fiat seems to be struggling to get sufficient numbers of its new Euro6d engine on time. For the fully integrated L! VE series, it is Fiat that applies, and Knaus presented a brand new, large fully integrated motorhome in the upper class. The series also includes several sub-integrated motorhomes, which for 2020 have received both water filter system, load carriers and digital HUD. Partially integrated can also be supplied with sunbed. New comfort mattresses in the beds, refrigerators with automatic energy selection and wood-burning gas stops are also standard. Otherwise, it can be mentioned that LED headlights, wider doors with central locking and layout for better interior space, again on most models.
SKY TI and Platinium have also been redesigned to give a better room feel. One of the models had side-mounted sofa group giving more floor space. To emphasize family friendliness, exclusive upholstery is offered and a so-called "cozy home" package with exquisite décor on seat covers, curtains and pillows, bedding and even a table runner. Knaus also offers an all-in-one navigation system with software specifically tailored for camping and three years of free map updating. Much of the extra equipment comes in packages that only to a limited extent increase the total price of the camping vehicles.
