Skysstasjonen Kro and Camping

Skysstasjonen is a year-round campsite and café, located in the center of Røldal.

We have cabins with 2 to 7 beds, about 35 beds for all types of campers, and 15 seasonal pitches for caravans.

We also have a large barbecue hut and sauna.

The campsite is located in the center of Røldal 50 meters from Coop Røldal and ATM, 200 meter from Røldal stave church, 150 meter to sports ground and slope, 300 meter to gas station. 

The hosts are Randi Elin and Eilif Kolbeinshavn and took over Skysstasjonen in August 2017. Randi Elin is a trained chef, and is originally from Røldal. She lived in Austevoll for about 20 years, where she was a co-owner of Austevoll catering before they moved up to Røldal. Eilif is a sailor and comes from Kolbeinshavn in Austevoll - an old trading post. He grew up there and has lived there all the time until they moved to Røldal in December 2016.

In the main building at Skysstasjonen Kro og Campinger the café room with room for approx. 40 guests and banqueting room with room for approx. NUMBER OF GUESTS. Here there is a large terrace with outdoor seating with all rights.

The shuttle station has a barbecue hut and a sauna on site, which is available to all our guests. You can rent these at the reception inside the café. New renovated kitchenette for camping tourists with 2 sinks and cooking area for 2 people

In the summer, we set up a trampoline and lay out tractors and trucks in the sandbox, which the children can use for free. In the winter, ski runs in Røldal will be run which you can use. Røldal ski center is located in the Hordadalen valley, about 6 km from Røldal, in the direction of Haugesund.

Røldal Stave Church

Røldal Stave Church is the most important tourist attraction in the village and a bit in the middle of the village center. The church is much visited due to its special decoration and history.

The church was built around the year 1250. Originally the church was very simple with only one room. After a quarter of an hour, the church was expanded, a porch was added and it was decorated inside. In the middle of the 1800th century, the church was rebuilt with table coverings both inside and out, in addition to being painted white. The church was restored in the early 1900th century and got back much of the decoration from the Middle Ages.

There are many hiking trails to the mountains around Røldal. Maps with hiking trails can be found at Skysstasjonen or at the tourist information office. From Røldal, there is a short road to Hardangervidda National Park. For popular tourist destinations such as Trolltunga, Buerbreen and Preikestolen, Skysstasjonen is a good starting point. They can then stay overnight in cabins or camp here. It takes approx. 1 hours drive to the start of the trip to Trolltunga, 45 min to the start of Buarbreen and approx. 3 hours to the start of the Preikestolen.

Road Trips

There are many attractions that can be reached by car in the area. For example, Låtefoss, in the valley of the waterfalls on the way to Odda, which lies approx. 25 min drive from Skysstasjonen. Langfoss in Åkrafjorden, on the way to Haugesund, is located approx. 40 min drive away.National tourist road, national road 520 to Sauda over Saudafjellet takes approx. 1 hour. Highway 13 towards Sulsal is a nice trip on narrow vestlandsvegar with many attractions along the way.The industrial city of Odda, with its museum and shops, is 50 minutes away. Tyssedal with power museum is 1 hour away. The Barony of Rosendal is a 1,5 hour drive away.

Cycling

There are good conditions for cycling in Røldal. Here one can cycle on paved roads with little traffic in the village, or one can cycle in the mountains. There are several gravel roads in the mountains that are well suited for cycling. In the summer, a rental bike can be found at the tourist information center, which is located in the center of Røldal, right by Skysstasjonen.
