Birkeland Camping
Enjoy the peace and quiet by the beautiful Aksevatnet, while you lie in your chair and look up at the majestic Lifjellet!
Do you like to go for walks? Fjelltrimgruppa in the municipality has marked 17 trips, several of them you can go to from the campsite, including the most visited mountain post Rossvikheia which is 301 masl Time from the campsite round trip 1 1/2 hours, at the top there is a Geolog board - here you can read about Hyllestad's exciting geology.
If you like longer mountain hikes, Lifjellet is a popular mountain hike. Some of the tourists who come to the campsite will get to take this trip. After a long mountain hike, tired and weary, we can recommend dinner at Sognefjord Hotell which is 5 km from the campsite.
Want to fish? We have a boat by the sea that can be rented, or you can use a boat and canoe that are on the campsite. You may be lucky to get a great queue (Aure)
My name is Mona and I run the campsite, my assistants' names are Kenneth and Geir.

History
Birkeland Camping was started in 1968 by Gunvor (Gulli) and Bjarne Hansen. They took over the place from the neighbor who no longer wanted to drive. The campsite was a nice addition to the farm in the time when there was at least milk. First they built sanitary buildings and two camping cabins. In the first years, it was mostly tent tourists from Norway and the other Nordic countries. After a while, Kombicampen came and people could sleep above ground level. That was the status of Kombicamp.
During the eighties, the demand for camping cabins increased, and they built another cabin. Today, tourists from all over Europe come both by motorhome and by bicycle. The cyclists are going north, either to Trondheim or on to the North Cape. They are satisfied only if they get a hot shower and a bed. Fishing in water and sea always has our popular activities. Tourists greatly appreciated the beautiful nature, roturar on the lake, mountain hikes and tranquility. Those who are interested in rock climbing can frolic in the mountain wall at Foss in Leirvik. More come eighteen year after year and have wart good veins of the whole family.
