Vega Archipelago - Eider, White and beautiful scenery!
Looking for a place where peace and tranquility can truly be enjoyed? Where you can gaze at the beautiful scenery while listening to the small fish jump? Then it is very likely that a trip to the island kingdom of Vega will fit perfect for you!
Many people probably remember Ylvingen - the island that in a short time became known in Norway through the NRK series Himmelblå. Vega and Ylvingen together with about 6500 other islands, islets and reefs consist of what is referred to as "Vegaøyan". You will find this beautiful holiday paradise for young and old on the Helgeland coast in Nordland.
People have lived on these islands for a long time - which is characterized by a harsh climate. In 2004, Vegaøyan was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List largely due to their impressive eider duck farming which has been very central on Vegaøyan.
The E-house is located on Nes on Vega, this is a bird of honor museum. In the old jetty you can learn a little about the love between the islanders and the bird of honor, and there is also the opportunity to know a little about the wonderful - and quite expensive - eider duna. There is also a shop, so here it is possible to bring exclusive goods that are perfect for cold days.
Sandmo Farm Bakery
The farm bakery you will find one piece south on eye. Here they can tempt with delicious baked goods and freshly squeezed juice. When we stopped in, they could also tempt themselves with freshly made pizza - perfect as an end to some delicious days on this beautiful and peaceful island.
How do you get to Vega?
There are ferries from both Horn and Tjøtta to Vega and Ylvingen. We recommend being out early for the ferries, as it can be a long wait if you do not come.
