Bessheim Mountain Lodge and Cabins

Bessheim is located close to Besseggen in Jotunheimen.

Centrally located at County Road 51, we have since 1890 been lodging and serving mountain hikers and travelers along the National Tourist Route over Valdresflya.

Accommodation and camping

We offer accommodation in rooms, apartments and cabins. In addition, we have a simple campsite. At Bessheim there are a total of 180 beds. The room has a mountain stove standard with made beds, and a shower and toilet. Both standard and size vary greatly in the cabins and apartments.

Rome

At Bessheim we have 64 beds in 27 rooms inside the lodge. There are made beds and towels in all rooms. There are showers and toilets on all of them, except for five of them. Those rooms that do not have a bathroom have a washbasin in the room, a toilet in the corridor and a shower in the basement.

Cottages and apartments

Cabin 3 + 5: Small cabins from the 60's. 4 beds, kitchen table, fridge and hob. About 12 square. No kitchen equipment and inlet water. Shower and toilet in the sanitary unit close by. Old, worn cabins of low standard. The price is NOK. 480, - per night. We do not rent these during the winter season.

Uncle Tom's Cabin, nummore 12: Small log house from the 1800th century with 4 beds (two bunk beds). Simply equipped kitchen w / sink and refrigerator. Built-in water. All in the same room. Shower and toilet in the sanitary facility next door. Old, worn cabin with a low standard, but in a way the most pleasant cabin we have. She is old and has a soul! The name does not come from the well-known book, but that it was a guy, "Uncle Tom", who brought three nephews here every summer for many years. But it's probably a long time ago, because this was something Grandma Kari was told when she was a girl in the 1920s.

Cabin 17: Lita plank cabin with three beds, simply equipped kitchen with sink and refrigerator. Built-in water. All in the same room. Shower and toilet in the sanitary facility next door. Old, worn cabin with low standard, but the view is nice then! We do not rent this out during the winter season.

Cabin 6: Fairly large cabin from the Olympics in Lillehammer with 3 bedrooms with 2 beds in a quarter of a room. Small bathroom with shower / wc. The kitchen has kitchen utensils, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. Stove and small porch.

Cabin 7 and 8: Two apartments in a house from the Olympic Games in Lillehammer. One bedroom with 2 beds, small bathroom with shower and toilet and kitchen with kitchenware, coffee maker, hob and fridge.

Sandstugu, number 9: Old country house from the 1800th century with a total of 7 beds. One bedroom with three beds (double bed with bunk on top) and one bedroom with four beds (2 bunk beds). Stove with fireplace. Kitchenette in the living room. The kitchen has kitchen utensils, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. Bathroom with shower and toilet. Balcony.

Cavalry house, number 13: Old house from the 1800th century with a total of 10 beds. Two bedrooms with three beds (family bunk beds), and one with four beds (two bunk beds). Stove with fireplace. Kitchenette in the living room. The kitchen has kitchen utensils, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. Bathroom with shower and toilet.

Cabin 19, 20, 21: These three apartments are located in Bekkestugu. A total of 7 beds left. 2 + 4 beds in 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor, as well as 1 bed on the stove. Shower and WC, stove and kitchenette on the ground floor. The kitchen has kitchenware, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. Must go through one bedroom to get into the other. TV.

Petrol Building, No. 22. Apartment on the 2nd floor of a house from 2009. A total of 4 beds. One bedroom with double bed. Stove with kitchenette and wood stove. Bensinbua, No. 23. Apartment on the 2nd floor of a house from 2009. A total of 6 beds. Two bedrooms with a double bed in a quarter bedroom. A bunk bed in the living room. Large stove with kitchenette. The kitchen has kitchen utensils, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. Bathroom with shower and toilet. Television. Balcony.

Cabin 27-32: Renovated, vertically divided cabins from the 70's. There are two and two apartments in a quarter of a house. A total of 4 beds. 2 + 2 beds in 2 bedrooms on the 2nd floor. Sofa bed, shower and toilet, stove and kitchenette on the 1st floor. The kitchen has kitchen utensils, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker.

Apartment number 33,34,36: A total of 3 beds in one bedroom. This is a family bunk. Shower and toilet in a rather large bathroom. Stove and kitchenette. The kitchen has kitchenware, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. There are three apartments per house here.

Apartment numbers 35, 37, 38: One bedroom with double bed, stove, kitchenette and bathroom with shower and wc. The kitchen has kitchenware, refrigerator, oven, hob, dishwasher and coffee maker. There are three apartments per house here.

 

Camping

At Bessheim we have a simple campsite with power outlets, shower and toilet facilities. The toilet facility was renovated in 2016. In the spring of 2019, we arranged for more tent pitches. The campsite is nicely located down by Øvre Sjodalsvatn. Here you can throw out the fishing rod from the opening of the tent if you want!

Food

In our restaurant we serve breakfast, dinner from an a la carte menu during the day and a good three course dinner in the evening. At the breakfast buffet you can lubricate the lunch box and get the thermos filled for the day's trip. The café is open from 11.00am to 20.30pm every day. From 13.30:XNUMX onwards we serve dinner from an a la carte menu. If you wish to reserve a table for a three course dinner, we will gladly accept your order on the day in advance.

The closest grocery store in the winter, when the Valdresflyvegen is closed, is in Randsverk. There it is 30 km.

When the road over Valdresflya is open, you will find a grocery store on Beitostølen. It is 35 km there. In Heidal it is kiwi and coop and it is 45 km there. In the summer there is an open grocery store at Besseggen Fjellpark, 3 km south of Bessheim and in Krambua, 6 km north of us. The center of Vågå is 55 km away. Around the beautiful Vågåkyrkja you will find fun shops and cafes in a pleasant village center.

Tips for tours in Sjodalen and in Jotunheimen

Bessheim is located in Sjodalen, in Jotunheimen. At the top of Sjodalen you are at 970 meters above sea level, and you are just at the tree line. You have plenty to choose from when it comes to hiking destinations. Everything from short hikes to demanding routes to some of the highest mountains in the country.

It takes 10 minutes to drive up Valdresflya, which is at 1400 meters. If you leave Bessheim and up to Bessvatnet, you reach the border of Jotunheimen National Park. From here you can see the majestic Besshø at 2258 meters. On the other side of Øvre Sjodalsvatn you see Sikkildalshø and Heimdalshø, which are also fine hiking destinations.

Besseggen

Besseggen is one of the most popular mountain hikes in the country. Most people who go Besseggen take the Gjende boat to Memurubu, and go eighteenth. But it's fine to go the other way too. Are you planning to go to Besseggen this summer?
