Setesdalsbanen is a narrow-gauge (1 mm) museum railway that runs on the 067 kilometer long, wild and scenic stretch between Grovane and Røyknes stations in Vennesla municipality, Vest-Agder county. The line was opened in 1896 between Kristiansand and Byglandsfjord. Only 2 years after the closure in 1962, Norway's first museum railway opened. Since then, you have been able to experience a more vibrant museum, with over 100-year-old steam locomotives, stylish wooden carriages, venerable station buildings and the smell of coal.
Setesdalsbanens Venner supports the work on preserving the track, buildings and materials. Volunteers from the association contribute everything from maintenance work, restoration and documentation, to staff in train operations. Source: Martin Mertens
