Atlantic Road - wild and wonderful
Closer to the ocean - driving - it should be well done to get! The stretch of road of about 8200 m, which is considered by many to be the world's most beautiful car journey, was in 2005 named the building of the century in Norway. It is said that the road workers who built this road experienced as many as 12 hurricanes during construction.
The road between Bud and Kristiansund is one of Norway's National Tourist Routes, and here are the highlights in a row. The road stretches over several islands, islets and reefs, and bound together by 8 bridges. It was opened in 1989.
Hustadvika located right near the Atlantic Road, and is considered one of the most dangerous stretches of the Norwegian coast. Many boats have historically been wrecked in this area.
Altanterhavsveien has become a popular destination even when the storm is on, but beware - when the wind races and rolling turn over land could create a dangerous condition.
There are a number of picnic areas along the way, and on nice days you can stroll around on the rocks or fish here.
The fishing village of Bud
With Hustadvika as the nearest neighbor, you will find the fishing village Bud in Fræna municipality in Møre og Romsdal. The name Bud most likely comes from the older spelling of the word ei bu, and was used about fisherman's cabins in which visiting fishermen lived.
