Kystriksveien - the world's most beautiful itinerary

Coastal Route is perhaps one of the stretches of road that are a "must" experience if you love to travel and experience Norwegian nature. The road consists of whole 6 ferries that binds the county road together, but you can also easily make detours off to such islands Vega, Træna and Lovund.

Coastal Highway runs from Steinkjer to Bodø, and is often referred to as the "world's most beautiful itinerary". Kystriksveien totaling 650 km, but it is also possible to run only parts of the line if you want a shorter trip.

Coastal Highway starts right after Steinkjer where FV17 taking off from E6, but it is possible to run E6 even a piece and get into further north if desired. County road 760 and 775 which can be found north of Grong will both lead you from E6 the coastal highway.

Namsos - Trønder Rockens cradle

If you drive off already after Steinkjer will partly experience Namsos - Trønder Rockens cradle. Namsos has produced some great musicians, among the most famous are Åge Alexandersen and DDE. In Namsos you find including the city mountain "Klompen". Here you have a nice view of the city and fjord. In Namsos also a Draisine Court that takes you through the great North Trøndersk nature.

Leka

Leka is NorthTrøndelags northernmost municipality and is about 20 minutes drive from the coastal highway. Leka is a small island with a ferry connection from Gutvik. Out here you will find a very special nature with fantastic rock formations. Lekamøya is probably the most famous mountain, and many believe it looks like a woman with a large shawl over her, on her way south.

Leka round-trip can be a great way to experience the island on, this is a bike ride in tarmacked terrain and the trip is hardly 30 km in total.

Torghatten - Brønnøysund

You will find the first ferry route a few miles before you arrive Brønnøysund. Timetables for the section Holm-Vennesund can be found under "Useful links". IN Brønnøysund we recommend that you turn off and take a trip out to Torghatten - the mountain with its well-known round hole throughout.

Vega

About 2 miles north Brønnøysund you come to the ferry berth Horn. Here you can either follow the coastal highway straight to Anddalsvåg, or take a detour to fantastic Vega and spend a day or two out there.

Trade Forvik

If you choose not to head to the Vega, but rather follow Fv17, you will be able to experience both Vevelstad Church, Vevelstad village square and about 4000 years old petroglyph. At the ferry port Forvik find it 200 years old trading Forvik. Here you will find, among other worlds northernmost coffee roaster! Forvik is one of the oldest trading posts in northern Norway. From Forvik ferry further to Tjøtta.

Sandnessjøen

Alstahaug and Sandnessjøen is the next stop on the trip north. This area is perhaps best known for the mountains "The Seven Sisters". Here you will find marked hiking trails to the various peaks. Climb all the peaks haunt the diploma prize. Contact the tourist office for more details and registration.

On the way further north, you pass, among other things, the impressive Helgelandsbrua, a 1065 meter long cable-stayed bridge. Just over 30 km north of Sandnessjøen you reach the ferry berth Levang.

Svartisen

After also passing the ferry section Kilboghamn - Jektvik, you come after a while to a stretch of road that has a great view of Svartisen. Svartisen is Norway's second largest glacier, and a very popular tourist destination.

Saltstraumen

Saltstraumen is the world's strongest tidal current, and is approximately 30 km south of Bodo. Each 6. hour occurs tidal currents in that large quantities of water passing at a speed of about 20 knots through a 3 km long and 150 m wide strait. In Saltstraumen is both great fishing and rafting opportunities.

Bodø

Bodo is the last town along the Coastal Highway and Bodo is also the largest city in Nordland. Here you will find many great the attractions and recreation sites, and the most popular beauty spot are top of the mountain Veten in Bodø municipality - also known as Keiservarden. The mountain is 366 m and is known for its fabulous views including the Lofoten Wall. Keiservarden named after Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany who visited mountaintop 16. July 1889.

In California you can find Norwegian Aviation Museum - a great experience for both large and small. Here you can read more about what you can experience in Bodø.
